Little artists explore a variety of artists, mediums, and art techniques in this fun class developing fine motor skills, paired with their imagination. Basic Ceramics with Erin

Learn the fundamentals of working with clay and glazes.  Wheel throwing, hand building and mold pouring through instructor demonstrations and one on one instruction is provided. Learn advanced decoration techniques, experiment with carving, template design transfer, wax resist, glaze layering, spray on glazing and painting with glaze. Combine beautiful form with everyday functionality. Finished pieces are food safe, oven safe, microwave and dishwasher safe. Already have experience with clay? Come in for some studio time to sharpen those skills.  Instructor: Erin Harris

A/B Art Camp Edmond Fine Arts Institute

Weekdays, K-5th grades

On virtual learning days, students spend 3 hours creating art taught by the  Art in Schools Program teachers at FAI .  Students rotate between instructors using a variety of mediums and exploring different elements of art. Select the day(s) that works best for your family. Classes and projects vary until traditional school resumes.  Enrollment requires a multiple week commitment, however refunds or credits will be issued if/when Edmond Public School classes are back in session.

Acrylic Landscape Painting

Painting with acrylics is rewarding, versatile and fun.  Native Oklahoma artist Thomas Stotts teaches his personal techniques used to create the unique landscapes and structures in his paintings. Through instructor demonstration, lecture, and individual practice, students learn the characteristics of acrylics, composition, perspective, distance, depth, light, shadows and color. Learn to manipulate the paint brush in varied ways to gain new painting effects and  work with  “washes” to create a “dreamy, atmospheric” look that is very popular. This class has been designed for the beginning, intermediate and advanced student with a mixture of studio time for independent work/experimentation, as well as guided one on one instruction. Students work with color combinations, brushstroke stroke techniques, and new materials. Gary emphasizes the study of subject, preparation, and transfer of images to watercolor paper.  Still life, landscape and portraiture techniques are offered as students advance their skills. A great “hands on” art experience. And, a great escape from the “computer” world! Designed for students to experience the unique materials used in fiber arts, this hands on class allows student to work with many different mediums specific to fiber arts. This yearlong curriculum is divided into 4 sessions with new emphasis in each session. Come to one session, or continue year around. From making sketchbooks, weaving, batik, and surface designs, student will create a variety of artwork while expanding their knowledge of fiber arts. Dive deeper into the world of theatre and advanced acting skills.  Students build on their basic knowledge of theatre and refine their performance abilities.  In this class students discuss various topics including: plot, setting, character analysis, and character motivation. Students will perform various monologues and group scenes from different theatre genres while focusing energy on specific aspects of performance. Instructor: Brent Pedersen

Oil Painting for Beginners Edmond Fine Arts Institute

All skill levels are invited to join this class. Instruction is tailored to the individual. Emphasis is placed on choice of materials, depiction of light and shadow, painting techniques, basic color mixing and composition. The course provides students with a foundation for creative expression in oil painting. Come get away from the stress of the day and enjoy a relaxing, no pressure atmosphere to practice and learn.  Instructor: Jon Martindale

Oil Painting supply list

  • Basic starter set of oil paints
  • Odorless Turpentine/turpenoid or odorless mineral spirits (AKA paint thinner)
  • Small container of Linseed Oil
  • Canvas, canvas board, wood panel, or clay board (pre-gessoed is best (any size))
  • A few brushes (they come in variety packs and are specifically for Oil or Oil and Acrylic)
  • A few mixing pallet knives (sometimes they come with the paint set)
  • An oil pallet (can be store bought or I recommend a $1 store picture frame with glass)
  • 1-2 air tight jars (either store bought or I recommend old food jars like baby food/salsa/jam)
  • Encouraged for students to bring a photo of something they would like to try painting

Western Art Oils with Steve Boaldin "Art of a Cowboy" *NEW CLASS*

Steve is a lifetime commercial and fine artist. Join this lifelong cowboy to learn the techniques and tools he uses to create realistic looking pieces in oil and mixed media. This particular class will have a focus on western imagery and the style that Steve uses in “Art of a Cowboy”.

Spring Break Art Camp

Drawing, painting, clay , mixed media and more.  Children will rotate between four classes to create multiple art projects. Rotations will allow children to work with FAI faculty in a fun and creative environment. Enjoy one, two, three, four or all five days! New projects are offered each day. Campers need to bring a sack lunch.

Little Artists Camp Edmond Fine Arts Institute

Preschoolers will have 3 days of fun filled artistic experiences. Campers will create paintings, collages, prints and three-dimensional art each day. Every day brings new projects that will bring a smile to all. FAI instructors are professionals certified in their areas of expertise. Learning is fun at the FAI “Little Artists Camps”. Art Escape Camp - Summer 2021 Edmond Fine Arts Institute

Art Escape Camp is a FAI tradition where kids enjoy a week filled with creative workshops in the visual arts. Students will rotate through 4 workshops each day where they will draw, paint; create with clay, mixed media and more. The FAI faculty, composed of professionals certified in their areas of expertise, creates an environment which makes learning fun and enhances self-esteem. All campers will receive a camp t-shirt. Please bring a sack lunch each day.

Grades: 1st – 5th

Camp enrollment is limited to a maximum of 10 students in a group to adhere to social distancing guidelines.  Proper spacing will be easily identified in all areas.
Students will be provided with hand sanitizer upon entering the building, and available in all classrooms.

SUMMER CAMP PROCEDURES:

DROP OFF & PICK UP has been modified to maintain social distancing requirements

  • Pull up to the front doors and remain in your car. The FAI staff will be in front of the building for camp check in and out.
  • Drop off begins at 9:15 – please allow a few extra minutes (especially the first day). Parents will be given a color-coded sign with their child’s name and group to display for drop-off and pick-up during the week.
  • After check-in campers will be taken directly to their art room.

9:30 -11:30 Campers will enjoy 2 art projects
11:30 -12:00 Lunch
Groups will rotate between the Courtyard and Mitzi’s Park (on the west side of our building) each day. Clearly marked sections separating campers will be monitored by the staff while students eat and enjoy creative social time outside.

  • We strongly encourage students to bring completely disposable lunches each day to reduce the potential spread of germs.
  • Campers will wash/sanitize hands before and after lunch.
  • During lunch, all art rooms and supplies will be disinfected with FDA approved cleaning supplies.

12:00-2:00Campers will complete 2 new art projects

*Students  will have the opportunity to complete all the projects throughout the course of the week as they rotate between the teachers during the week.

2:00 Pick Up*: Campers will remain in the classroom until their pick-up vehicle arrives.

-Please display the child’s color-coded paper sign in the front windshield for pick-up

-Remain in your vehicle while waiting.

*If you need to check out a child early, please call the office first, 340-4481. We will bring them to your car when you arrive.
