January Gallery

The Edmond Fine Arts Institute (FAI) Gallery features the art of Connie Seabourn, January 3 - 31. An artist reception, open to the public, will be held on Thursday, January 11th from 5:00-7:00 at Edmond Fine Arts, 27 East Edwards, Edmond, OK.

Connie is an accomplished artist and daughter of renowned Oklahoma artist and FAI instructor, Bert Seabourn. She began exhibiting and selling artworks as an adult in 1969. Receiving a BFA from the University of Oklahoma (printmaking major, painting emphasis), in 1980 she began a self-supporting career in fine art alone. Earning a degree from the University of Central Oklahoma (M.Ed. in art education) in 2001, Seabourn also added to her experiences the role of teacher, as she taught painting and drawing at various places, including Rose State College and the University of Central Oklahoma. She taught full time art with Oklahoma City Public Schools from 2007-2016, as she steadfastly continued to create and exhibit her paintings and hand-pulled prints.

Today she continues painting passionately, as well as teach art classes to adults, conduct occasional workshops in watercolor, mixed media, and printmaking, and continues to write and illustrate children's books. Her work has been documented in books, papers and magazines and is included in many prestigious collections. She makes her home in Oklahoma where she explores life, art history, mysticism and religions, transforming her discoveries/thoughts/feelings into her unique and personal artworks. She has exhibited in galleries and museums across the country, and her work has adorned books and magazines.

"Metamorphosis" is the title of her latest body of work that will be exhibited at Edmond Fine Arts during the month of January. Although there are many themes and subjects explored in these latest watercolor paintings, and the idea of change and shifts runs through all, there are many butterfly pieces with the more traditional thought of metamorphosis. Patrons will also find a few paintings from "The Feminine Face of God" exhibit recently exhibited in spring 2017 at Oklahoma City University.

For 33 years the Fine Arts Institute has been Edmond's non-profit community arts organization offering educational enrichment for adults and children in the visual and performing arts.
